“Since 1872 …” are the two words that represent the beginning of a story that has been unfolding for over 144+ years. The saga is powerful, a history of the antiquity of the United States, the legacy of a pioneering Pennsylvania family, the Northern Allegheny Mountains and generations of hand-crafted German brewing heritage. The story is about the Straub Brewery and Peter Straub’s quest to brew an “exceptionally good lager beer”. Today Straub can be counted as one of the very few members of the prestigious fraternity of American Legacy Breweries (ALB)™. As the third oldest brewery in the United States, the company is still owned by the Straub family, brewing through the late 1800’s, until prohibition in 1920, and officially remerging and continuously brewing since 1933. Throughout the 140 year history, the Straub family has produced their beer from a small American hand-craft brewery, located in St. Marys, PA, choosing to preserve tradition, taste and quality of its lagers over mass production and size. The current President and CEO of Straub Brewery, William Brock, is the Great, Great Grandson of Peter Straub. Under his leadership new chapters to the Straub Story are being added, with Straub tenaciously persevering in a fast moving era of modern brewing, yet remaining loyal and worthy to the brewing legacy known as Straub.
